Dear Friends,
Imagine a Tuesday afternoon. A small group of girls is meeting in the Middle School art room for their weekly GAP! program. Although their faces are obscured by masks, one can see that the room is full of confident, curious, smiling young adults. Each one of them talking and laughing, excited to be together. This school year, GAP! has provided over 165 in-person sessions for 3rd-12th grade girls.
During this exceptional year, GAP! has continued to positively impact kids in our community. Our empowerment themed programming has built connections in a time of isolation, instilled insight and self awareness, provided tools to navigate obstacles, cultivated strength and courage, and fostered hope for the future.
In lieu of our annual GAP! Luncheon this May, we are excited to launch a special Mother’s May Match campaign to honor and reflect upon the significant women in our lives— mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, godmothers, mentors, coaches, caregivers, and friends. GAP! has a $20,000 match opportunity, made possible by the Hughes Charitable Foundation, which will allow us to continue building up youth in our community. We are only $5,000 away from our match goal!
Upon giving your "Mother's May Match," you will be asked to recognize someone special in your life. GAP!, in turn, will hand write a card with your message & mail it to your loved one. Thank you so much for your support! Together, we will continue to foster confidence and courage to create brighter futures.
Did You Know? In addition to our after-school programming, GAP! filled community need by partnering with local organizations to host social emotional learning sessions for at-risk middle school boys and girls. We held 20 virtual leadership sessions, piloted a Girls Who Code online tutorial and served over 200 3rd-12th grade youth in this past extraordinary year. Our Summer Empowerment Workshops and Outdoor Adventure Series for 6-9th graders keep girls connected, active and impacted during summer down time. Our Raising Girls virtual events focused on difficult subjects, giving parents and caregivers tools to help youth thrive.
